Youngstown Lifeguard Academy

Project led by Youngtown Lifeguard Academy

About the project.

This project will support the Youngstown Lifeguard Academy in recruiting, training, and supporting young people as they learn and master the skills to lifeguard in conjunction with training in leadership, personal development, community service, economic development, employment, and entrepreneurship.

The Youngstown Lifeguard Academy participates in various community service projects as part of their  Leadership Development, and On the Job Training to expose young people to career pathways and “Soft Skills” Development.

In return, participants will give back these gifts to their community through volunteerism and community service.

Support Black-led organizations.

The Youngstown Lifeguard Academy is a Black-led organization: over 50% of the board is Black and the executive director identifies as Black. The organization also serves the Black community.

Support for Black-led organizations and projects serving the Black community is especially critical right now. As a result of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, there are many needs facing communities throughout the country and in Appalachian Ohio, with Black communities among the most impacted.

FAO staff comments.

The Youngstown Lifeguard Academy knows that encouraging resilience through personal development and life skills is the first step in creating opportunity.
