Mobile Market Perks Program

Project led by ACTION, Inc.

About the project.

After successfully hosting three seasons of Pop-Up Produce Market in a city deeply impacted by poverty and food access barriers, ACTION initiated plans for a Mobile Market.

This Mobile Market will allow us to offer not only produce but additional food selections and staples to meet the needs of our residents living in designated food deserts. Our vehicle is being built and will launch in April 2022. The 28-foot bus will be stocked with fresh veggies, fruit, cheese, milk, various meets and grocery staples.

Seniors will be able to shop right outside their doorstep, single moms won’t have to walk to the corner store with kids in strollers. We are working to eliminate barriers. One of those barriers is food cost.

Our Mobile Market Perks Program was established to give eligible residents a monthly $25 voucher to purchase food of their choice from our Mobile Market. Criteria simply includes that an individual or family live at or below 200% of the federal poverty level and live in a USDA designated food desert. This $5000 goal will allow us to provide 200, $25 perk cards to folks who can then purchase fresh, healthy food in a neighborhood near them. This will keep our community fed and our market moving.

FAO staff comments.

Access to fresh produce and other grocery staples is essential to health and wellness. ACTION’s Mobile Market will bring these staples to neighborhoods where residents face a wide-range of barriers accessing the sustenance they need.

Gifts to the Mobile Market Perks Program will provide Perk cards to allow people to purchase fresh, healthy food in their backyards.
