Gallia Community Foundation

Project led by Foundation for Appalachian Ohio

About the Gallia Community Foundation.

The Gallia Community Foundation Fund was created to assist the Gallia County community in growing philanthropic resources to enrich quality of life. All gifts to the Gallia Community Foundation are invested in an endowment fund at the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO). From its interest and earnings, this Fund will make grants to support the community for many years to come, ensuring permanent resources designed to address Gallia County’s changing needs over time.

Our work together has already made a difference, and with further investment, our impact on the nonprofits, schools, and communities of our treasured county will only grow. Recently, the Gallia Community Foundation awarded three grants to support Gallia County’s communities during the COVID-19 pandemic:

  • Field of Hope Community Campus, Inc. received funding to in increase its food storage capacity to make a greater impact addressing food insecurity;
  • God’s Hand at Work received funding to establish a Mobile Food Pantry to provide food to more people who need it; and
  • Square One GJM received funding to support a new kitchen, which will enhance the organization’s work as a domestic violence and homeless shelter.

Special match opportunity.

For a limited time, all gifts to the Gallia Community Foundation will receive a 50 cent match for each dollar given!

Thanks to matching funds awarded to FAO by the Ohio Legislature, $1 million is available to FAO endowment funds, including the Gallia Community Foundation. Each donor can secure up to $5,000 in match.

The $1 million in match is available to all endowment funds at FAO and will move quickly. Don’t let time run out. Help us secure match for Gallia County so we can make a greater difference together!

The Gallia Community Foundation committee.

The Gallia Community Foundation is driven by a local, volunteer committee. The committee works to ensure that gifts to the Foundation make the greatest impact in the Gallia community through meaningful grant awards.

The Gallia Community Foundation committee is composed of Aaron Buckley, Cody Caldwell, Wendy Canaday, Matt Johnson, Brynn Noe, Jodie Penrod, Katie Ratliff, Scott Saunders, and Arun Sharma.

FAO staff comments.

Appalachian Ohio has access to nine times fewer charitable dollars per capita than the rest of the state. At FAO, we understand that a combination of local leadership and regional initiatives is needed to tackle this philanthropy gap that all too often means an opportunity gap for our communities and the people who call them home. One crucial way FAO has sought to address this philanthropy gap is by supporting the efforts of counties in growing philanthropy with the local community, for the local community, including the Gallia Community Foundation.

Because we know that lasting resources dedicated to local communities is so vital to creating opportunities, 100% of your gift and its match to the Gallia Community Foundation will be invested in the endowment to make a long-term, local difference in Gallia County.

Make a donation.

In a special Cause Connector opportunity, 100% of your gift and its match to the Gallia Community Foundation will be invested in this local endowment to expand the resources available for local grantmaking each and every year for generations to come.

While the $1 million in match available to FAO's endowment funds lasts, your gift will be matched 50 cents for every dollar given. Each donor can secure up to $5,000 in match.

For larger gifts or to donate in other ways (e.g. stock transfer, IRA transfer, or a gift through a donor-advised fund), please click here or contact FAO at 740.753.1111 or info@ffao.org.
