Cosmetology Class

Project led by Ohio Valley Youth Network - Sycamore Center

About the project.

The Sycamore Youth Center is beginning a new cosmetology class for middle and high school students After seeing teens braid each other’s hair and apply makeup, the center decided to create a cosmetology class to level up the teen’s skills.

However, this new class requires different equipment, including mixing bowls/brushes, combs, aprons, curling irons, shears, and mannequin heads for practice.  Each class will serve about 20 students. A hairdresser and cosmetologist with 20 years of experience, will be teaching the class.

We would really like to make this dream a reality for the students since learning cosmetology skills like these can aid them to a potential career.

FAO staff comments.

By mixing the students’ interests and talents, Sycamore Center is creating an exploratory learning environment that will benefit the students for the rest of their lives. Experiential Learning is the process of learning by doing. By engaging students in hands-on experiences and reflection, students are better able to connect knowledge learned in the classroom to real-world situations.
