Cooking & Budgeting Program

Project led by Nelsonville Food Cupboard

About the project.

In collaboration with other community groups, the Nelsonville Food Cupboard is offering a series of cooking classes for food pantry clients. These classes focus on basic nutrition, essential cooking techniques, how to cook with unfamiliar ingredients, how to plan and stretch your food budget, how to shop and stock your pantry, and more.

Dollars from this project are being used to support the purchase of food for the classes as well as recipes, ingredients, and a budgeting guide for class participants to take home with them, empowering participants with the knowledge and skills to improve their diets over the long-term while on a budget.

FAO staff comments.

This projects helps the Nelsonville Food Cupboard step beyond the simple provision of food to become a more comprehensive provider of health and nutrition. By teaching clients cooking basics as well as how to create and plan meals, the Nelsonville Food Cupboard will help clients today and far beyond their visits to the food pantry.
