Comfort and Emergency Items for Children Served
Project led by The Children's Advocacy Center of Guernsey CountyAbout the project.
The children’s advocacy center provides specialized services to children who have been abused, primarily sexually abused children. Children and their families come to the center to receive services including forensic interviews, support, advocacy, information, referral, and forensic medical exams. These appointments can be very stressful for the children being served and their family. The agency provides a comfort item for these children while they are here. These items can include a stuffed animal, small toy, coloring book, journal, gift card to get lunch after the appointment, food or gas gift card for families having financial troubles, etc.
This funding will help the agency provide comfort items to abused children and make their appointment at the center more trauma informed.
FAO staff comments.
Trauma informed approaches are essential when working with children, especially those that have experienced significant trauma, like abuse. This projects seeks to comfort children at perhaps the most vulnerable time of their lives.
