ADA Compliant Restroom at the Monroe Theatre

Project led by Monroe Arts Council

About the project.

The Monroe Theatre opened in December, 1939.  After celebrating a rich history in Monroe County Ohio, the Monroe Theatre closed in 1977. The Monroe Arts Council acquired the building in June, 2016, hosting it’s first live show during Alumni Weekend in June of 2019.

As time has gone on, the need for new ADA compliant restrooms for those with limited mobility has become apparent as the original restrooms at the Theatre are all on the second floor. This project would support the building of a family friendly ADA compliant restroom on the main floor of the theatre. An indoor handicap restroom would greatly improve the Monroe Theatre’s ability to better serve the public.

FAO staff comments.

Access to the arts is important for any community in Appalachian Ohio. These needed updates to the Monroe Theatre would allow for expanded access and enjoyment to all members of the community, regardless of mobility.
