Containing Hunger

Project led by Vinton County 4-H Advisory Council

About the project.

The purpose of the Containing Hunger Program is to provide an opportunity for Vinton County community members to experience the joy of eating self-grown produce. Middle school students have volunteered to do the initial planting of seeds, will tend to seedlings as they grow, and will harden the plants for outdoor growth. Hardened plants will be donated to students identified for Project Backpack, the local food pantry, and the elderly. This project will empower a wide range of Vinton County community members with the knowledge of how to grow their own food and contain their hunger.

FAO staff comments.

The Containing Hunger project will allow Vinton County residents to experience the joy and nutrition of eating self-grown produce, even if they may lack access to space for a garden. This project engages community members of all ages to combat food insecurity in Vinton County.
