stART Appalachia

Project led by Meigs County Council on Aging

About the project.

The Blakeslee Center’s 1,450 square foot Art Studio is being renovated to enrich the lives of Meigs County and surrounding counties residents. Heating and cooling, electrical, elevator, sprinkler and fire alarm systems have been completed to bring the Studio up to current safety and ADA compliance. In order for the studio to be opened, flooring, exhaust systems and all necessary supplies to outfit an art studio must be purchased. When the studio is opened, multiple subsets of the population will be engaged in the developing art programs:

  • youth;
  • age 60+;
  • drama and theatre groups;
  • families; and
  • intergenerational programming like our award winning “Yesteryear” are some of the many that will enjoy this space.

The Art Studio at the Blakeslee Center will fill a gap for art, expression, and creativity in our Appalachian region.

FAO staff comments.

Community spaces have always been a vital part of Appalachian history. The Blakeslee Center in Meigs County is in need of renovations to ensure that community members of all ages and abilities have access to the space and arts programming.
