Harrison County Courthouse Lights began in 2019. The purpose was to bring some life back into Harrison County with the hope that eventually people would travel to see the display. The goal was to add approximately $5000 in new lights each year. The pandemic hit and the tourism council lost about 75% of the funds they were receiving. 

The village along with the Cadiz Business Association had purchased Christmas banners, new lights for the uptown poles and individuals the opportunity purchase snowmen cut of plywood and decorated to the buyer’s instructions known as snowmen on the square. 

The tourism council decided they would like to add some fun lighting and music to the courthouse. The first phase was the lighting around the windows and pillars of the courthouse. With the lights, control boxes, speakers, music the total cost was right at $5000. The following year with funds being low the officer manager and another couple decided to make some decorations at their own expense. We made two Christmas trees, snowflakes for the windows, and arches for the front lawn. The tourism council purchased lights for the snowflakes , arches and two signing faces for the trees at a cost of $1800.

Funding will support program expansion and continuation to ensure the lights remain a bright spot for the residents of Harrison County as well as those visiting. 

Tourism and local pride can go a long way in community development and support. This projects seeks to continue a holiday tradition for new and old in and beyond Harrison County.
