Helping Kinship Families
Project led by Southern Ohio Fishers of Men AssociationAbout the project.
This project will provide funds for the Southern Ohio Fishers of Men Association (SOFOMA) to provide “Kinship Kits” to families and relatives who have recently taken in children who may have had to leave their parents due to the impact of substance use disorder and other challenges. These kits may include a twin bed, 3 drawer tote, towels and toiletries, and clothes for the children.
SOFOMA works with the Logan Hocking School District Safe Family Resource Liaison to identify families and connect them with these resources.
FAO staff comments.
Increased reliance on kinship care arrangements because of challenges parents and families face is undeniable. However, it is sometimes a struggle for kinship care providers to have the furniture necessary to create a safe space for kids, especially when it requires a quick turnaround. These home kits will meet a specific need while also creating a safe environment for young people who have been through a lot and just need a safe, warm place to lay their head and call their own.
